Reading Wikipedia today, I discovered that tonight is "Twelfth Night"!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelfth_…
Obviously, I don't know much about the Catholic Church. Love the symbology though! Anyway, the article led me to the pages explaining the Lord of Misrule (aka "the Abbot of Unreason" or "the Prince des Sots" ) and the Feast of Fools.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_of_…
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feast_of…
"In the medieval version the young people, who played the chief parts, chose from among their own number a mock pope, archbishop, bishop, or abbot to reign as Lord of Misrule. Participants would then "consecrate" him with many ridiculous ceremonies in the chief church of the place, giving names such as Archbishop of Dolts, Abbot of Unreason, Boy Bishop, or Pope of Fools. The protagonist could be a boy bishop or subdeacon, while at the Abbey of St Gall in the tenth century, a student each December 13 enacted the part of the abbot. In any case the parody tipped dangerously towards the profane. The ceremonies often mocked the performance of the highest offices of the church, while other persons, dressed in different kinds of masks and disguises, engaged in songs and dances and practiced all manner of revelry within the church building."
Next year, I want to have a Feast of Fools party!

New job.
Woot! Got a new job. As of February 4th, I'm part of the Unix Sysadmin team for a well-known software company. This one isn't in the Fortune 500, but maybe that's a good thing? Certainly won't miss the bureaucracy of the old one.
The downside is I'm going to be really busy for a while. Apologies to those whose comments and favs have not been responded to. Between looking for work, interviewing, and starting work, I haven't had much time for art.
Laid off :(
After eight years with the company, I've been laid off. They did an across the board cut - even in groups that were *making money* (like mine). Shit. Worst economy since the Great Depression and I'm looking for a job.
Know anyone who is looking for a Unix SysAdmin?
Prez O...bam..a!
Woo hoo! Can't hide my pride in my country. After eight years of having a President who was both an embarrassment to the nation and a threat to the world, it will be so nice to have THIS man in the White House. Will everything be different on January 9th? Nope. We'll just be starting-out in the right direction.
Barack Obama is bright, well spoken, and has shown excellent judgment. Best of all, he knows what the word diplomacy means.
Hopefully he won't waste any time in putting an end to Bush's illegal domestic spy program.
Obama! Obama!
Pissed off...
Once again, I've had burning pumpkin photos moved to the "pumpkin carving" category... which is under... culinary arts??? WTF? I risked my life (literally!) to make these photos and, now, they're grouped with a bunch of stencil-cut squash!?!
My images are NOT about fucking pumpkin carving!
I've burned dice for photos. Should they be under culinary arts?!?
I've burned words. Should the photos be under pumpkin carving?
Last year, the moderator(?) was nice enough to move them back into Horror & Macabre. This year nobody's responding. I've just moved them to "Photography, Abstract & Surreal, Surreal", because the theme fits the photos better
